It s not all light. And it certainly isn t all sweet. It exposes obscure places and it offers some sense of resolve. It s a journey, quite simply. I want people to feel my music; to think, She knows my story, she got into my head. I m the ear that listens to my girlfriends talk about life and I just know we re not the only ones going through some of this stuff.
So not only do I hear it, I articulate it back into the music I make. Singing background with various Indie artists gave her a solid foundation on the music scene. Captivating the hearts of the fans and onlookers with an intimate, eclectic and soulful performance is what she gleans from those experiences, in addition to staying true to the music; staying true to inspiring others. Owning and operating Candigirl Music with partner Michael ReimonenQ of Acoustical Endeavors Entertainment has given Carmen the ability to have free range in her creativity and business decisions.
This is what can be expected of Carmen Rodgers as an artist: deep soul, striking arrangements and blunt but beautiful lyrics. Like the old saying you re beautiful when your angry, Carmen Rodgers sounds really good when she s bitter. And the EP The Bitter Suite captures beautifully the stages of hurt, anger and resignation of a love gone bad. The gentle song Home instantly moves to my list of early favorites for So now I ll wait to hear the full story in her upcoming album, Intermission, hoping that Carmen sounds as good making up as she does breaking up.
Listening to this album, I hear her growth, development, experience, strength as well as sensitivity. It served as a window of her soul and I saw my reflection. We grew together. This wait for her second album was so worth it. She delivered and fed my soul. Welcome Back. Michael Gipson, Editor of SoulTracks.

And she effectively captures the stages of hurt, anger and resignation of a love gone bad on her new EP, The Bitter Suite. It's been six years since the Dallas-based singer won a sizable number of fans with her debut album, Free, and those fans have been not-so-patiently waiting for more.
Rodgers' full sophomore disc, Intermission, a complete story of a relationship gone good, then bad, then good again, will be coming later; but she is now issuing a big chunk of it the "gone bad" part with the digital release of The Bitter Suite. And Rodgers feeds on that talk, vowing not to get hurt anymore on the nervous, jazzy "Never Again," another EP highlight. But as the disc approaches its coda, she begins to come around, realizing that there may be some value in all that damn pain, and she finishes in a more pensive mood on the ballad, "Better U Than Me.
But, like opening a book in the middle, one can't help but want to hear the whole story that surrounds The Bitter Suite, one that will be told on the full album, Intermission.
The Bitter Suite now Rodgers fans can celebrate the welcome, enjoyable return of the Texas musical chanteuse. But they'll want more It was the haunting It's Me that got me to buy the mp3 and I wasn't disappointed. When Carmen breaks down that we all have that "bitter sweet" thing going on in our lives and how it prepares you for the "light at the end of the darkness," you are happy you listened in on this conversation of the heart.
My other pick for best of Makes you feel good about the state of music and if you seek the great, you will find it. Highly recommended. But as it went on I adjusted my expectations and it drew me in further and further. In the end, the lyrics, music, and especially Lucy's singing really blew me away. So much so that I watched the episode a second time within a few days of first viewing it, which is something I've never done before.
I still have a hard time believing that this quality of a rock opera style musical was done for a one hour television show, and not even an A-string, big budget show. Much of the music is haunting and full of emotional impact.
The final songs can bring tears to my eyes, and I haven't even seen the shows leading up to this one to be able to feel the full effect. I couldn't seem to get the music out of my head, so I finally had to buy the soundtrack CD, The Bitter Suite.
Not something I would have ever previously envisioned myself doing as a more casual Xena fan. So that should hopefully attest to this amazing piece of television musical work. The only drawback is that I wish all the songs were split out individually, but I understand why it was done this way.
I have to vote this CD high considering i think the one you sent me was possessed XD I have witnesses to it too! Granted my lens needed cleaning realistically, but for awhile til i got the lens cleaner cd this was the only cd my computer would The Bitter Suite run XD, so me and my friends daughter who likes the show had a bit of fun as we said the gods were haunting the machine. But while this The Bitter Suite is essentially episode ripped music instead of a 2ndary record of each song, its still a great cd, and we managed to get a 2ndary kick out of a 'haunted' machine that only would play xena and none of the other 50 cd's i had til the lens was clean.
I was trying to remember the musical episode of Xena for weeks and decided, what the heck I love this episode! They were at the point where they just had too many lies and secrets and waaaay too much anger. Enter the musical!! It was a fabulous and funny way to cut through all the crap that had been building up between our stars and move forward, or just kill each other and get it over with!
This show is for die-hard Xena fans. Watch for the dance between Xena and Ares While not quite the entire episode ripped to an audio file, it almost feels like it is. The tracks are more like parts of the episode between commercial breaks than broken out by individual song. That's why I didn't give it 4 stars. This sounds great so if you've seen the episode and want the music on CD, buy it.
If you haven't and are thinking you are buying a song collection, this is more of a concept album that tells a story, being that it is the majority of the sound from the episode. Anyway, I think this was miles better than the Buffy musical, and it was done first. I am the master of geography. Xena is an amazing show and this was a really great episode.
The singing is great, Lucy's voice is amazing and the acting is great, as always. I bought the cd because I wanted to have it so that I could listen to it whenever I wanted, without it needing to be along with the episode. The songs 'Heart are hurting' and 'The love of your life', mainly, are worth having this cd.
Thanks for safe arrival of this. Wonderful soundtrack from one if my favorite XWP episodes. See all reviews.
